New Years Eve was 3 months ago now and after telling and being told to have a happy new year we come back to work around the 20th January, and around that time Paul was told after a doctor’s appointment that he may have cancer. Not the best way to start a year. We had just moved in to our new offices which Paul had superbly project managed to be completed before Xmas 2011, and we were confidently expecting to have a great year.

A couple of weeks after that initial cancer notification Paul’s greatest fears were realised when after further tests he was told he had terminal bowel and liver cancer. He is currently going through a chemotherapy program which might be able to slow the spread of the cancer but can’t stop it. For those of you who don’t know where we have moved to, we are now at Level 4, 12 O’Connell St. About 100m in a straight line from where we were originally. For Switch Business it is business as usual, different obviously, but we are still trucking along. Paul will come in from time to time for a coffee but as things stand today he will no longer be working, as he wishes to spend more time with his family and friends.

My daughter Nicollette is working in the business part time (between University studies) and she is picking up the administration/marketing slack. Only benefit of the situation is I get to see my 20yo daughter every day.

The year has started of nicely from a business point of view. We are/have released a couple of Master Franchise opportunities to the market. We have another almost ready to go and also we have an Import/Distribution business circa $2m which we expect to hit the market in the next 4 weeks.
